There's a 5 year-old in the house! Even though his party was last Saturday we wanted to make the real day as special as we could.
We started with his favorite breakfast meal: Blueberry pancakes and sausage-
We had three gifts for him, so we told him he could open one at breakfast, one at lunch, and one at dinner. This was his breakfast gift - the Lego Off Road Command Center with Police Boat. He was pretty pumped and got to building right away.
As usual, the tongue is out when he is concentrating.
Later in the morning - complete! He had to take a little break from building when his friend Henry stopped by to drop off a birthday present.
His lunch time gift included some Batman markers and coloring things. It also included this Lego Batmobile that Greg built. He ordered the pieces individually and followed some online instructions to know how to put it together. As you can see from Malik's face, he was pretty much awestruck. Nice job, Greg!
As is our custom, the birthday boy got to pick out a restaurant to go to for dinner. Surprisingly, he chose the Sports Page (think family restaurant or a not-so-great knock off of Applebee's). He enjoyed some chicken strips and his last gift, Green Lantern and his jet. Here we are celebrating how great it's going to be to be 5!
We're so proud of Malik and can't wait to see what this next year will bring for him. Here are a few things about him:
*When I asked him what the greatest thing was about being 4 he replied, "Legos!" When I asked what he thought the greatest thing would be about being 5 he replied, "Legos!" Well, I guess we can all see what tops his list!
*Favorites:
Color - blue
Food - pizza, hot dogs, yogurt
Ice Cream - strawberry
Toy - Legos
TV Show - Wild Kratts
*Sleeping patterns - He usually takes a nap for 1- 1 1/2 hours in the afternoon and then sleeps from about 8:45-7:00 through the night. He piles the blankets on and sleeps with both a fan and noise machine running in his room. It's also very vital that you leave his door completely open and the hall light on all night. He still loves to be read a story before bed and likes us to cuddle with him for a bit before he goes to sleep.
*Clothing size - size 6 in most brands, starting to move into a size 7
