We left Texas around noon on Thursday and drove back to Branson through Oklahoma instead of Arkansas. The road was much straighter, which made for happier passengers!
We made it about 6 hours to McCalester, Oklahoma where we stopped for the night. After dinner we thought we should probably check out the local ice cream place. We got three junior cones and one enormous waffle cone for $5.00. Crazy!
Friday morning we spent some time in the pool at the hotel and then drove the final six hours back to Branson. We ate dinner at the condo and then Grandma and Grandpa wanted to check out a local yogurt place. Who were we to disagree with their plans?!
Malik's one wish for vacation was to visit an old-time candy store. He made sure to save some of his spending money so that he could buy some goodies. It was so fun to see him interact with the store worker. So grown-up!
After the candy store, we all ventured to a small zoo in Branson. The boys liked the indoor 'Parakeet Paradise' where you could feed the birds that were flying around. (This would be my mom's greatest nightmare!) The birds were very pretty and also enjoyed pecking at Greg and Jerry's shoes!

Later that afternoon, we went to see a production of 'Jonah' at the Sights and Sound theater in Branson. It is a huge place and the 2085 seat theater was sold out for what was the opening show. The music and especially the sets were amazing. Unfortunately, it was also very loud, which never goes over well with our boys. Thankfully, there was a cry-room at the top of the theater that we were able to watch the show from. By the second act, Malik was feeling better and stood on a chair to watch through the window. Elias bounced back and forth from the window to the tv display. Despite all of this, they both say the play was one of their favorite parts of the trip!
The next morning, Sunday, we drove home to Pella. It was a long, but good, week.
