On our second full day in Indiana we made a visit to nearby McCormick's Creek State Park. We've gone there the past few years during our summer visits and have always enjoyed our time there. This year we went with the intention of enjoying a hike. And what a hike it was...
I think most of us were expecting to take a leisurely stroll through the woods. As it turns out, the map they give you isn't very topographical nor does it really depict the length of the trails. They do categorize the difficulty of the trails but it's possible that the map reader (whom I will not name here) might have overlooked that information.
What ensued was a fantastic 2 hour hike up and down the steep hills, and stairs, of the park as well as the need to cross the creek three different times. The boys were rock stars. There was very little whining and Elias never even asked to be carried. It was a long way for his little legs!
Grandpa and Grandma did pretty well, all things considering...like a history of by-pass surgery and knee/hip problems. I have a feeling this day will become one of those forever told stories, "Remember the summer we took that hike..."

Climbing up the stairs, only to find out that we still weren't where we needed to be and had to hike back down another trail and across the creek again!
When we finally emerged from the woods we enjoyed lunch at the inn located inside the park. This has to be one of the greatest ideas ever. Many of their state parks have inns where you can stay and yet enjoy all of the outdoor activities without having to camp. Genius!
